Golden

for Trombone and Piano

Duration:  16:30

“Golden” for Trombone and Piano is a virtuoso piece for the trombone with a wide range of expression, from Trouble and Worry (Mvt I), to the wonder of Golden Lilies & Birds through Hope and Peace (Mvt II), to, despite life’s trials, Dancing with Joy (Mvt III).  Special and unique sounds include the trombone and piano echoing bird songs and the trombone playing ethereal tones into the open piano strings, they say it is “breathtaking.”

“Golden” for Trombone and Piano was inspired by a portion of the Sermon on the Mount.  It says, don’t worry about what you will eat, drink and wear… doesn’t your heavenly Father feed the birds and clothe the lilies in more splendor than King Solomon?  But seek first the kingdom of God, and He will provide.  I imagined a person experiencing the “Trouble & Worry” of our times, and wrote the first movement.  Then I envisioned that person encountering God and experiencing the joy of His peace and provision as He points to the Golden Lilies & Birds.  Finally, He asks, “May I Have This Dance?”  Our character returns to the present and dances, first in amazement, and then with joy.  Trouble & Worry re-emerge but are now overlaid with joy and peace, and our character goes forth in bold faithfulness.
