ADVENT TRILOGY (Three Men of Christmas) 
Three art songs for Baritone Voice or Mezzo-Soprano and Piano
Duration:  4:40 + 7:50 + 4:30 = 18:00 performance time

These three art songs can be performed independently or in sequence, at any time of the year.  Stuart McAlpine’s profound text explores three men from the Christmas story, Joseph, the Inn-keeper, and Simeon.  The creative and beautiful musical settings allow for powerfully dramatic interpretation and performance.

Exuberant…antiphonal brass ensembles play the sounds of cathedral bells ringing in the Christmas season.  The woodwinds take over with a middle-eastern style melody, then the two styles embrace in a joyful, festive dance celebrating the birth of the King of Kings…huge ending!  This piece (respectfully) rocks!

DANCE OF THE THREE KINGS
Quartet for Three Trombones and Tuba
(or any similar combination of instruments)

A tribute to the three kings who traveled the dusty desert to see the Christ child, this fun quartet has rhythmic drama, a wondrous star, and a joyful celebration of the birth of the King of Kings!  …a creative setting of the carol, “We Three Kings.”

“Golden” for Trombone and Piano is a virtuoso piece for the trombone with a wide range of expression, from Trouble and Worry (Mvt I), to the wonder of Golden Lilies & Birds thru Hope and Peace (Mvt II), to, despite life’s trials, Dancing with Joy (Mvt III).  Special and unique sounds include the trombone and piano echoing bird songs and the trombone playing ethereal tones into the open piano strings, it is “breathtaking.”

FLEE!  NOVELLA FOR STRING QUARTET

“Flee!” is a novella, a short story, for string quartet.  Imagine being captive, the opportunity arises, take a chance and flee, mixing the exuberance of restored freedom with the fear of recapture.  At Sad, pause to think of those still in captivity, but not for long.  Danger!  During the four episodes in Evade – leap, hide, scurry, and project bravado until the coast is clear, and once again, Flee!  Finally arriving at a place of Refuge, rejoice, then revel in new found freedom!  Flee! is an exuberant experience for both players and audiences.

ONE MORE MOUNTAIN for Horn, Trombone & Piano

“One More Mountain” is a dynamic musical drama in one movement for virtuoso Horn, Trombone and Piano.  Strong melodies, beautiful waltz, moment of peace, and a rip roarin’  Heroic Ride to the end.  Perfect finale for a recital…standing O!
